Main screen from case Truss Int

Truss Int redesigned LHG’s platform, which moves ore by river between Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay — replacing an end-of-life Russian system.

Context

The scenario

Mobile and fixed asset management for Latin American operations. As Product Designer, I redesigned LHG’s river operations platform.

The problem

The system was for lookup, not management. The real operation lived in scattered spreadsheets nobody could consolidate. When something went wrong, nobody knew where or why.

How do you rebuild a critical system in 5 months — with no documentation and the operation living in spreadsheets?

Research and method

01

Initial conversations

The brief described a platform to replace. It looked like an interface problem.
02

The discovery on the 4th interview

The manager didn’t use the system to operate — she used spreadsheets. The Russian system was just for lookup.
03

Rebuilding the logic

No documentation. Archaeological work: mapping what the system recorded and where the real gaps were.

Mapping

Lookup became management. GPS, crew, cargo, routes, and cameras — integrated into a single platform.

Result

10+ years
of legacy restructured in 5 months

Platform delivered with 6 functional modules — Map, Planning, Equipment, Mosaic, Events, and TopOff — covering everything from fleet registration to real-time monitoring.

A system the operation finally uses — because it was built from how it actually works, not from how the previous system imagined it should.
